How I Learned to Stop Internalizing Everything

Personal note from: https://medium.com/the-ascent/learning-to-stop-internalizing-everything-8116f4ed915f

1. Separate what you did wrong from what was not your responsibility – tough task
– What exactly you do wrong
– How can you apologize & fix it
– Try to look from an outsider’s perspective to understand
– Better to calm yourself, because when things go wrong, emotions run high
> luxury : to take a day to think everything over, before having to come up with a possible solution

– When screw up:
> Apalogize
> find something you can fix
> do your best to fix
> try to learn from all of it

2. Emergencies happen. Take 5 minutes of reflection before deciding — better than immediate instinctive reaction.
– Effective solution doesn’t always mean everyone will be happy
– Need to reconcil with the fact that someone other than me is going to be disappointed
> Don’t try (too hard) to make everyone happy

3. Decide not to take it home.
– conscious effort
> go out for a run
> go to the gym
> do some yoga
> grab a book
– feel a lot calmer
– internalize a lot less
– allow yourself to learn from mistake rather than simply burrying in guilt
